Interview: Giorgio Moroder: Visiting Italy is like going home, and being on vacation at the same time

Giorgio Moroder

The Italian record producer, songwriter, performer and DJ was recently in India to perform at Johnnie Walker – The Journey 2015

I travelled a lot through Europe when I was younger…
I started my musical journey in Switzerland. After spending about two years there, I moved to Holland. I’ve also played in France, and a little in Germany. Travelling to England has always been great – they have a lot of new artistes, and the music is always taking new directions.

I don’t really get to explore the cities I visit…
I’m usually so busy on tour that I hardly see more than the airport and the venue at which I’m performing. Maybe, one day, I’ll come to India for a little longer than two or three days…

I like going to Italy now and then…
Visiting Italy is like going home, but being on vacation at the same time. I used to ski a lot in winter. Nevertheless, it’s still great to breathe in the fresh mountain air, and to meet old friends. That’s what I like to do best.

My wife is from Mexico…
We go there from time to time. When I’m in Mexico, I like to lie under the sun and not do anything. I used to play golf there, but I don’t anymore.
