Cinematic journeys, filmi anecdotes, illustrious film-makers and a movie-crazy audience — all four came together beautifully at the launch of Filmi Escapes: Travel with the Movies, the latest addition to Lonely Planet India’s titles list. The book was unveiled by Imtiaz Ali, popular film-maker and writer, at PVR Juhu, Mumbai, on November 20. A charismatic Imtiaz, who always carries a Lonely Planet guide in his suitcase, held the audience in thrall with travel stories from his own life as a student and as a director.
A panel discussion, held the following day at the Crossword Bookstore in Mumbai’s Kemps Corner, brought together Mahesh Bhatt and Nikhil Advani, two successful and much loved directors from two eras. The topic was India Talkies: Bollywood goes domestic, and both Bhatt and Advani praised the new guidebook for acknowledging the role of the film industry in promoting travel and tourism in India.
Here are some snapshots from the two events, and we are delighted to have the best on Bollywood do the honours for us!
