As Benjamin Franklin says, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” And to become happier, chances are that you’ll find your way to one of the many microbreweries, clubs, pubs and bars that have mushroomed all over Gurgaon. But if you are confused about where to grab a good beer or which is the apt place for a drink after work – we’ve made things a bit simpler – here are our top choices.

Brewed beer served in quirky glasses at Downtown.

Howzatt: One of the first microbreweries to open in Gurgaon, the beer here is a perfect accompaniment to the nation’s favourite sport – cricket. Located at Galaxy Hotel, the couches are in the shape of leather gloves and you stare at a screen whenever you turn your head. Even the beer names are cricket related: Doosra, their lightest beer, Googly, the light-bodied malted wheat beer, and Bouncer a dark brew with a bittersweet balance acquired from roasted malt and hops.

Striker Pub & Brewery: Clearly amongst the top watering holes in Gurgaon, Striker has its own brewery offering four kinds of beer – Jazzy Light, a light pale yellow beer, Country Pilsner, the full bodied premium beer, Weiss Blues, the wheat beer and Rock Bock, heavy bodied dark beer. Be warned if you come here on a weekend you may be jostling for space – not to sit, but just to stand.

7 Degrees Brauhaus: Massive space, great music, well brewed German beer (Lager, Wheat, Special and Master’s) and the juiciest sausages you can bite into in this part of town – this is 7 Degrees Brauhaus for you. No wonder this beer house is fast becoming a popular watering hole.

Downtown's warm setting is ideal for a few drinks with friends.

Downtown: We’ll make no bones about this and come to the point straight away – Downtown is clearly a favourite option that’s been pulling Gurgaon’s crowd for a while. We guess that it’s their freshly brewed beer that’s been doing the trick –  Wheat, Premium, Dark and Corporate Ale, all served in a place with wooden interiors giving the feel of an old English bar.

Grab a drink after work

Underdoggs Sports Bar and Grill: Tucked away in a corner of Ambience Mall this sprawling bar is a welcome addition to the limited number of sports bars in Gurgaon. Besides watching your favourite on the screen (there are more than 40) you can try your hand at a few. And when it comes to basics – they get it bang on – the food is good and cocktails even better. Beer drinkers can choose from a large selection of international beers.

Route 04: Reasonably priced drinks, good music and ambience and Happy Hours from 2 to 10pm on all days including weekends as well. Do you need more reasons to spend an evening here?

Club Rhino's psychedelic lighting provides a perfect setting to its imaginative cocktails.

Club Rhino: If you want a change from the regular cocktails and beers make your way to Rhino. The name may sound odd for a pub, but this is one of the first clubs in Gurgaon to experiment with molecular mixology. While some cocktails come with small gel baubles others are served with foam. On Thursdays they have Happy Hours from 6 to 10pm.

The Beer Café: Germany, England, Belgium, Denmark, USA, Holland, China, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Czech Republic, Ireland – no we are not listing the countries where Beer Cafe has branches – but the fact that you can sip on beers from these regions. Clearly Beer Café is a dream come true for beer lovers offering one of the largest selection of international beers.

TGIF: The cocktails don’t get bigger than this – try from their list of ‘Ultimate’ drinks and you’ll be a Happy person. To make you happier TGIF offers buy 1 get 1 free on weekends also from 5 to 8.30 pm. They have excellent grub to go with your drinks.
