From our Editor: Something new this way comes….

Most of us look for something new each time we plan a break. There’s that anticipation of discovering something we’ve not seen, eaten or experienced before that’s undeniably life-enhancing. We’re hoping the two new sections we’re introducing this month will bring that joy and excitement into your life. These are among the biggest changes to the magazine we’ve made in the last eight years, and we’ve spent a lot of time brainstorming, researching, writing and designing these two sections. As always, our mission is to give you great inspiration to travel and to feed your hunger to know more about the world out there.

With Explore and Journal, we promise you more local tips, more tempting food and drink stories, new ways to explore the planet, tales from the road… More celebrations of the magic and madness of travel. Look to our Contents pages to find out more about Explore and Journal, and do let us know what you think at

We’ve also got some cool features for you this issue: unusual winter experiences across the world, incredible snow-swept landscapes in West Iceland and the Japan Alps, and an inspiring eight-day exploration of Bhutan. Aurelia and Krishna from Team LPMI can’t stop talking about how incredibly beautiful Asia’s happiest country is – that’s just one of the many reasons it should be on your bucket list.

And, if you’re looking to add to that list anyway, take cues from the Lonely Planet Best in Asia list; there are 10 cool destinations worth discovering – in our backyard.
